To the competitors, members and supporters of the (nine) clubs; to all the organisers who get equipment, and people, together and get them to and from events; to the many folk who don’t even get to row but selflessly crew and manage laying and lifting marks, umpiring, marshalling, fetching, carrying, to the spectators who braved a soaking to watch St Ayles Skiff Racing on the Clyde – Thank you all!
Thanks also to Clydebuilt Festival for providing the setting and opportunity for the event, to the many sponsors and to Ben Wilde and GalGael for the magnificent trophy, held by Anstruther in 2016 and this year won by Dundrum, Glasgow Cup Holders 2017, who are invited to return with the trophy to the next Glasgow Cup to defend their title. For the dreich weather and any organisational inadequacies on the day I take full responsibility- your patience and forbearance were much appreciated.
The results in tabular form are now available, but they are only part of the story.
To the members of the Clubs who were so close ….. and maybe not so close … to the glittering prizes, may I remind you of Roy Kerr’s message in presenting The South West Challenge Trophy: the Skiffing Community is about meeting and competing. In that spirit, we truly are all winners.
With very best wishes
Convenor, Glasgow Coastal Rowing Club
